I don't know why but I like the characters of this donghua more than others. Perfect World, BTTH, Soul Land and Fanran have great character designs too, but I just like this one better. I can't think of any obvious reason. Does anyone feel the same or is it only me?

I do feel they are slightly less 1-dimensionnal than in most Donghua, but I find the same qualities in Zhu Tian Ji, Doupo Cangqiong and Shaonian Ge Xing on my end.

That's true. Character modeling in these donghuas has great improved compared with the past. I have heard that Passion Paint Animation, the studio that produces Jun You Yun, is pretty new in the industry and they have done a very impressive feat. I haven't watched Zhu Tian Ji and Shaonian Ge Xing yet, but they are on my watch list.

Right. And it's not so self-serving for the MC. I like that he has promise but isn't arrogant or overly confident. He's sly and witty, but definitely realises that he's weak. There's no "the MC wins at the end of the day", here. Cos after 11 episodes, he's just gonna get started with the right training.

The balanced view shown of all characters is also pretty good - no harem or even love interest (everyone loves the senior but she doesn't necessarily like the MC that much to stand out) - and in the end, it's all wholesome! :)

The story telling is there, with background information that is just enough for curiosity. The characters have their own individually instead of a cookie cutter design. It is definitely different from the other donghuas.

That is even more vague. Justice is subjective to the person dealing and receiving. If an evil man conducts and act of kindness and is wounded, would it not be justice for the one he showed kindness to to help him heal? Then if he is pressed to kill that person to save his own life. Is slaying an evil man justice? Or is it a crime against honor to kill a man that has shown you mercy?
Justice is defined differently in different governing states as well. Justice for a corrupt society often claims that the one at fault is the one that offended those with status or connections. Justice in a benevolent society would claim the one at fault is the aggressor who is abusing his power to oppress the weak.
Though "upholding justice" sounds well and good, it is merely a label for the perspective of society.
